LOS ANGELES— Ken Griffin’s Citadel, was one of the earliest hedge funds to drag staff back to the office, which remote work expert Chris Dyer warned was not only foolish, but would be a disaster. Sure enough, Griffin has reversed course and is now allowing workers to go back to remote work as Omicron rages across the globe.
“Workers are not ping-pong balls, they’re talented people who should be valued enough to not be thrown from the office to remote work, dragged back to the office, and then told nevermind,” said Dyer. “Consistent, well-designed remote work and hybrid models that put people first, are the most conscious systems we can have in place as business leaders.”
Harvard Business Review recently published a report “Our Work-from-Anywhere [WFA] Future,” which unpacks the history of remote work, where its transitioned to a dominant force in the market and more. Dyer took his own company fully-remote in 2009 and has shared over a decade of his experience in training leading institutions and companies like the U.K. National Health Service, the U.S. Patent Office, Johnson & Johnson and IKEA. He is an internationally-recognized keynote speaker and consultant.
“Businesses, workers and society benefit most when we have a dynamic culture around work and what that looks like as a component of our overall lives,” added Dyer. “Companies are not only sacrificing value for their own businesses they are sacrificing value for the greater good.”
Dyer says that companies need to accept the fact that WFA is going to be the standard, and that as the pandemic continues to drag and casualties in the war on Covid-19 continue to mount, that businesses need to be mindful of protecting their workers.
“Workers need options and the wisest business decision you can make right now is to design a strong, conscious and fulfilling workplace that not only offers remote work but is dedicated to remote work being ideal,” underscored Dyer.
